How to inspire yourself while your computer sleeps

Another typical beautiful day on the beach- breezy, sunny, and cool.

Remember back in the day of Pentium I’s, 2400 or 9600 baud modems, or computer games like Number Crunchers?  These were the days when SCREENSAVERS were all the rage.  People (myself included) got excited when the computer snoozed and put on a slideshow!  “Wow, this is technology at it’s coolest!”   Well, nowadays you can simulate playing as a Beatle, find anything you want in a matter or seconds, or view videos and pictures you just took from your phone.

But there is an easy way to resurrect the excitement from your screensaver, and I’ll take you through it in a few steps.

First, create an empty folder inside your My Pictures folder and name it “Visual Reinforcers” or “Flash Card Goals”.

Then, go search the web for large wallpapers or images that really excite you.  (Google Images is my choice).    You may have all the pictures already on your computer.  The point is to get a variety of images that are a few of your favorite things you have or want, or it could just be amazing images that make you feel more intelligent or broaden your perspective.   I currently have 89 images of cars, artwork, landscapes, and just plain coolness.    Have your high-res collection?

Next go to Start, Control Panel, Personalization, Screen Savers.  (I’m using Windows Vista)  Now instead of the old 3D text or Windows logo (remember the flying toasters?), select Photos.  To the right, click Settings, Browse, and then select the folder you created as (Visual Reinforcers) or whatever.

It’s not a new idea, but I love high resolution photos.  It can be a good way of reminding yourself that you want to continue towards a specific image in your mind.  You can have a folder that motivates you during the day, or you can have a folder that relaxes you at night.  You can also edit the images and write on them.  Be creative, and your computer will encourage you while it sleeps!

Welcome! An introduction is in order..

“Hi” and thanks for visiting. There are four important projects that I am committing time, love, and energy to.   I believe they are all significant, new, and very interesting!  The first is a series of inspirational non-fiction books called “The Upward Spiral”.   Its goal is simply to remind its readers to feel good, every day.   I’ll be posting new quotations, so check back often.

Next is a cutting edge business management system derived from aerospace engineers (rocket scientists!), currently reconfigured for car dealerships. It is called PROBE, or probabilistic business engineering. Amazingly, it claims to use 100-year old technology to increase customer satisfaction, personnel (employee) satisfaction, and profits.  I’ll be posting new theories and findings on the latest research.

Third is Sapling, Vermont maple liqueur, made by my brother-in-law. In my humble opinion, it is absolutely delicious, and I want to be able to share it with my friends- especially around the Holidays…  It is my job to introduce it to every State in our beautiful country!    America sure is great….

Finally, I am co-producing a documentary film on Autism. I was a behavioral therapist for some time (rent the movie “The Miracle Worker” for a typical work day), so I’ll work on this noble cause next in order to reach more people.  One on one therapy is very difficult and humbling.   Why autism?  Because 1 in 150children  is way too high a ratio.    I look forward to sharing my progress and passion.                 ~Greg
